Today is Memorial Day lets think about that and lets everyone take a moment to just stop and say a silent thank you to the men and women who have given their lives to make this country great. This is a reprint of an editorial I wrote a couple of years ago:

My Country: While I can be extremely critical of my country, most notably confiscatory tax rates and my forced participation in social welfare programs that amount to a gun being put to my head while my money is taken from me by force and given to someone else so that they can continue to live in poverty. But all this aside there is no other country that I would want to call home, and there is no other portion of this country that I would want to be from. I am American by birth and Southern by the grace of God.

It is the people of this country that I love so much, we are tough to anger, but when you do watch out! Winston Churchill knew this and called us “The Sleeping Giant”. In other countries on this earth I would face sure execution for doing what I do for a living.

Veterans: Even more than I am thankful for my country, I am thankful to those men and women of all races who have fought to keep the founding principles of this country intact. Many of these people, including a few of my friends have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, they gave their life so that you and I might continue our way of life, and I can think of nothing more worthy of my respect and honor. Consider the black soldiers who fought in World War Two, segregation was the law, if you were black, you drank from a different fountain, went to a different restroom, rode in the back of the bus and had to look long and hard sometimes to find a restaurant or hotel that would serve “your kind”. Yet these people offered their lives for this country and if not for what it was, then certainly for what it would become. In my opinion the most sacrosanct of all holidays is Memorial Day and the most important day of the year is election day because election day is the day that I can thank all those who have fought for me and my way of life. Voting takes very little time and says so much, it is the very least I can do to insure that these men and women did not die in vain and to show that I appreciate their extraordinary gift.

Think about this y’all…and thank a serviceman, service woman or a Veteran today!

VAN NUYS, Calif.- - Vivid Entertainment Group, one of the leading producers of adult videos and DVDs, and Larry Flynt Publications, publisher of over 30 magazines including Hustler and also a leader in the adult entertainment business, have signed a contract under which all aspects of Vivid’s video and DVD distribution in the U.S. will be handled exclusively by LFP.

No word on if Hustler is going to push Vivid into a less “condom friendly” attitude. With all U.S. Porn Companies suffering overseas and Vivid not exactly burning up the charts here in the US., it is odd that Hustler would see Vivid releases as viable. Vivid DEPENDS on the softer cable TV markets and the farming out of the Video and DVD distribution makes sense, but why Hustler, known for its hardcore releases and cutting edge subject matter, would want cable TV fare is puzzling. The press release and the story said that Hustler aquired ONLY the US rights to Vivid Video and DVDs, presumeably Vivid will still control foreign rights and Cable TV rights. It is unclear if this will effect the content of Vivid Videos, though sertainly not in the near future, Vivid has unreleased titles that were lensed years ago.

It appears that a new actor to the biz has tested positive for HIV. The fellow was on a bi-sexual set and suspicions were raised prompting the female involved to get him to AIM for a test. He tested positive. No word on the guys name but Sharon Mitchell from AIM says she is trying to contact him. Mitch also states that she believes he already knew he is HIV Positive. IF that is true he could be in violation of California law for knowingly attempting to spread the HIV Virus.

A very reliable insider read my update and immediately called me with the inside line. Heres what we know for sure. Both Vivid’s National Sales Manager Howard Levine and Vivid Interactive National Sales Manager Jim Monroe will join LFP.

Word from my source tells me that this is just the first move in a complete assimilation of Vivid into LFP. Watch for the following to happen:

Contract girls are going to be phased out PDQ

So are condoms.

Hustler uber director Pierre Woodman and others will start lensing story driven features under the Hustler/Vivid Label. These will be along the same lines as Private has done.

Look for Hustler to use contemporary music Icons to phase into mainstream projects.

When you look at it this way the Vivid deal makes a LOT more sense, Vivid has solid name recognition, so does Hustler, with Hustler calling the shots Vivid could regain status with the “raincoaters” I wonder if Paul Thomas has his resume up to date?

Speaking of Blacks site, the one Gene Ross writes for has taken on a decidedly more civil tone since the departure of their old webmaster, word is the old webmaster is the one who spews the vitriole and hatred and it appears his association with his new site is proving that true. Word around porn is that his new site and all associated with it will be as welcome as a turd in the swimming pool at most of the big industry events.

But nobody has asked and nobody has answered questions people wanna know.

#1 Is Vivid going to maintain the condom mandate or is Hustler going to take all condom fare?

#2 Are the Vivid girls going to remain (Steve Hirsch said Vivid was still picking the Vivid girls but the only two mentioned at all in all of this are Savannah Sampson and Kody, both of whom have reportedly done far nastier than Vivid normally shoots.

#3 Is Vivid in negotation to sell any more of Vivid to Hustler?

Yesterday I spoke with Avalon, Gigi Appleton, a truly nice lady is the HWWIC at Avalon. She tells me how slow sales are and summer is coming up and and nobody is moving much product etc.

Then today I get a call from a big chain of video stores here in Atlanta, they want to buy direct from me because their distributor, IVD, cannot keep them supplied with my tapes, this is not the first time I have addressed this problem, it isn’t even the fifth or sixth, more like the tenth. This customer sells out of my product almost as fast as they get it, I’m a local boy, I do very well here and across most of the Southern States. But does the distributor increase the shipments of my titles to this customer….In a pigs eye….Instead the customer tells me ” I’m swimming in this fucking Al Borda shit they keep sending me but I can’t get enough copies of your stuff or Jules Jordan’s”

So I send the customer to Avalon, who will not sell direct to the customer because Avalon doesn’t punk it’s distributors that way…If only the distributors were as loyal and honest.

Not a single week goes by that I don’t get multiple emails from people who want my videos but can’t find them in their local store or from store owners who can’t seem to get their distributor to send them my stuff. And this pisses me off because it is money out of my pocket, it means that “Customer NO Service” at these companies is exactly that.

What’s the answer? If anyone knows email me.

How many American porners know that name? How many American Porners have any idea what GGG or 666 are? They should, it’s their big competition in Europe. The titles from Thompson outsell even Private. And porners wonder why the european market has slipped away from them. How many American porners have a good web presence? How many are ready to go head to head with Private?

We are coming into porn’s slow season, summer is historically the slowest 3 months in porn, I guess cuz people are spending time outside and all. Insiders tell me that many porn empires are crumbling as we speak. I hear of huge layoffs at one big porn company, I hear that there is a backlash against US Porn in Europe. There’s a glut of product on the market, most of it cheaply shot and sold for single digit profit margins. Rising talent costs and serious competition from the internet combined with a flattened consumer demand seems to point to a long overdue shakeout. Even the big boys are scratching their heads at the anti porn valley sentiment in the euro market. Funny thing is how can they not see that in countries where fisting and golden showers are commonplace a video with all condom scenes and no facials isn’t going to offer much competition. Europe doesn’t suffer the illusions of that mythical Holy Grail called the “couples market”. I don’t know what the answer is, but I know what it isn’t. It isn’t continuing to flood the market with cheap product, trying to make it up in numbers. If the industry wants to make money it had best get a hold on production and concentrate on selling more pieces of quality product than on releasing titles from anyone capable of pointing a camera at a naked girl. But it’s a lot like herding cats. Expect changes in porn, it’s been a long time coming but a new guard is positioned to rise up and assume power. The times they are a changin.
