Banned In The United Kingdom

The following sex acts are now banned in Porn in The United Kingdom.

Spanking

Caning

Aggressive whipping

Penetration by any object “associated with violence”

Physical or verbal abuse (regardless of  if consensual)

Urolagnia (known as “water sports”)

Female ejaculation

Strangulation

Facesitting

Fisting

The final three listed fall under acts the BBFC (British Board of Film Censors) views as potentially “life-endangering”.

This pulls the VOD and The DVD sides of porn together in that these had been banned on DVD all along, but not so for internet delivered content.  Many of the opponents of the rules are pointing out that they are targeting mostly activities where women get more pleasure than men, others argue that the rules apply to either sex are are targeted only at activities that tend to be violent in nature.

In a piece for The Independent, award-winning erotic film director Erika Lust said that she believes “we need to rethink what is offensive or dangerous and what is, in fact, normal human nature, and remember that it’s more important to educate than regulate.”

  1. you wanna re-read that. not the ACTS are banned, their depiction in porn is. as even the TITLE of the article says:
“A long list of sex acts just got banned _in UK porn_”

  2. The acts are banned for UK produced porn…UK customers may still resort to the www for foreign productions of these acts which is tantamount to 1800’s literature ban giving rise to popularity of risqué French Novels. With the UK filters in place and folks looking to expand them this makes US Free Speech look like a utopia.

Anyone notice the graphic ..heel on leather mouse? No mention of bugs or small critters.

  3. I strongly disagree with the ban (which won’t affect me as I don’t travel to or live in the UK), this is a slippery slope to an eventual ban on all non-approved speech in that country. I know Russia is headed in the same direction. I hope this slide into communism/fascism can be reversed but I am not hopeful about it.

I also have to wonder if the UK government is embarrassed that one of their own (Peter Acworth, owner of Kink is a British national and holds a UK passport) is leading the charge toward what they would call filth and what I would call free expression in porn (particularly in BDSM) and is trying to ban any viewing of his content there as a result. The listed ban items certainly look like they are aimed straight at Peter and Kink, about all on that list that he does not currently allow at Kink is facesitting and water sports (essentially pissing — which he has allowed in the past and still has a site featuring that hasn’t updated in years). Mike isn’t clear here but I suspect that the UK plans on blocking sites featuring BDSM by IP meaning that to view such content there you would need to spoof an IP (I won’t make a scholarly presentation but essentially that means you log onto a server in another country and from there log onto Kink’s or Intersec’s sites (pretty much the only ones affected, I don’t think you can even work Facial Abuse into this ban reliably) using the third country’s IP address, unlimited data through a spoof server was less than $30 a month recently when I looked into it, IIRC 500GB a month was less than $5).

  4. “Penetration by any object “associated with violence”

Physical or verbal abuse (regardless of if consensual)”

By these two standards UK won’t be producing any mainstream horror, drama or even news and real life documentaries are definitely out.

Even hallmark after school specials include examples of verbal abuse and simulated physical abuse. Kids cartoons show the same as what not to do. SMH as to how this got passed.

  5. I had two thoughts here, first that much of the content from Brazzers is now technically illegal in the UK (considering there is often spanking, choking, or verbal abuse in there (is “take my cock balls deep, you slutty whore” abusive or just play by play commentary?).

The other thought is not to worry, the UK will soon has Sharia law and all this shades of grey about porn will be blown away.

  6. I bet he is, Bob. However, I think Den was hopelessly out of touch with porn viewers today in regards to BDSM. I respect him as a person and may he rest in peace but I still have the right to disagree with him on this. From what I recall Den’s biggest concern in mainstream porn was choking, maybe we should not choke people, maybe if the risks are fully understood and it is fully consensual it should be allowed — I don’t know but I can’t see where we can’t fake it (that is very easy to do). If someone fakes choking in most cases the viewer would not know the difference and Den would have refused to rate the movie in response as he would not have known that actual choking did not take place. I actually wonder what Den would say about today’s rougher porn (he has been deceased for three years now), would he still refuse to review it or would he have had to relent as porn goes in that direction.

Again, rest in peace, Den. You are missed whether I agreed with you on certain things or not.

  7. The UK as a rule looks at freedom of speech a little differently than the US and always have. Journalists, for instance, do not have the same level of protection that they have here, which is the reason that celebrities often choose to sue media organizations in the UK when possible. They usually win. So, it’s not a surprise that they have a different view of porn that here in the US.

God save the Queen. Long live the Empire.

  8. MHarris127: DEN would never have wavered from his conviction regarding choking. He always held the girl’s safety as #1.

  9. Verbal abuse (regardless of if consensual): this is I-N-S-A-N-E! I guess that liking to be told “suck my dick, slut” must be more socially dangerous than being forced to wear a burka and not to talk to men.

Aggressive Whipping: so mild whipping is ok? Why is the only forbidden practice accompanied by an adjective? Am i the only one seeing a religious connection here?

Female ejaculation? Really? Where are all the fucking feminists when you need them? Too busy fighting for men’s castration? What a despicable bunch of useless pussies. This reinforces my idea that feminists are a group of frigid, unsatisfied women. Amen.

  10. I’ve been following this with great interest for over a month now. Even though I’m not a producer and I live in Texas this still directly effects my income, as many of the sites I promote are UK based. A number of them have pulled existing promo materials that were not compliant, most without notice.

One thing that has not come up here yet are the ramifications for non-UK porn. ATVOD, the agency that enforces these regulations, has the authority to require UK Internet providers to block non-UK sites that are in violation. That’s a whole ‘nother can-of-worms.

  11. I did not know Den face to face (I think I responded to a couple of posts of his on ADT) but I have read some of his writings and reviews, from those and what others have said I tend to agree (mostly) that he would not have relented on his choking stance but cannot say for sure (no one can). However, it would have been interesting to hear what he would have said about today’s rougher porn — not just the choking but the rough language and BDSM content in general — whether he would have decided to relent on his stance of not reviewing choking movies (and probably BDSM in general although I don’t recall him making such a comment directly).

Let me also state (since I brought the subject up) that I participate in BDSM (and get off on it) in my private life, I am not advocating for its demise even though I think specifically that choking during sex play is a dicey practice at best and abhorrent at worst depending on whether the top knows what the fuck he is doing (and how to reduce the risk of injury from choking) or not. i state this to new and less frequent posters commenting here so they know that I am not advocating the elimination of the practice in adult film.

For the record I hold performer safety in high regard as well. However, IMO that must be tempered with free will and freedom for performers to make their own decisions on what scenes to do (including choking and BDSM) and whether to use a condom in them or not without government interference. A girl should have the right IMO to decide for herself. However, a guy should have that same right (for example in my personal life I don’t choke the girls I fuck even though I will fight for a couple’s right to participate in such play) and the “safest” and most conservative of the two decisions should rule the day. A producer also should not attempt to push a person into doing what he/she is not comfortable with after their arrival on set, scene parameters should be set before a person agrees to a scene in the first place and a performer should be able to either accept or reject a scene based on what is said to him/her when the scene is offered to him/her.

I will say it again, please rest in peace Den. You are missed in the adult film industry.

  12. @mike: deleting my comments you don’t agree with now? I can see you deleting TRPWL article on Harris but deleting my comment agreeing with the British ban? A lot of people in the public agree with what I said.. I mean let’s not hurt anyone feelings by being honest or anything…. Something most people who comment on here don’t appear to be… And you And the others on here don’t have an agenda? I rest my case…

  13. It has nothing to do with whether I agree it has everything to do with does anyone else want to have to muddle through it…I told you take it private unless it has appeal for the readers at large
