Which means he was before a judge and remains in remand custody. the systems in europe work quite differently from british/us law.
for Untersuchungshaft (remand custody) the conditions are: there needs to be a high probability of a sentence for the alleged crime.secondly, there needs to be a reason to actually imprison the perp, that can be: danger of flight, danger of conspiracy (influencing witnesses, fucking with evidence), danger of a repetition of the alleged crime.

This is an interesting turn that certainly lends from credence to the idea that this isn’t a simple “forgot to pay sales tax” thing. In that case, authorities would probably just lock up as much money as they could get their hands on and let him out on high bail. That he is spending his second and on to third week in jail says a whole lot about what is going on here.
My guess is that the authorities realize that letting him out would just result in a game of international whack-a-mole, where he can basically operate outside of their reach, and move his business and virtual properties to places where they cannot do anything about it. So instead, he sits in the one place they know they can find him after. I also think that keeping him without bail suggests that there may actually be some jail time that results from this action, and not just a fine or a “monies owned” resolution.
I think the bigger worry right now for the Manwin people as a whole is that this process has likely opened up not just the German company for inspection, but also will likely lead to tips and information from it going around the world. It could take a while, but this one could have some echos in the long run. Even if it doesn’t, the scare of this one should be more than enough to make the money people think about backing away from the situation.

from http://www.thelocal.de- German bank Commerzbank has got all hot under the collar and is planning to terminate a business contract with internet porn mogul Fabian Thylmann following his arrest on suspicion of tax evasion, according to Welt am Sonntag.
Customers of German amateur pornography portal MyDirtyHobby, one of Thylmann’s various sex portals, have for some time paid fees into an account held with the Hamburg branch of Commerzbank, according to the report.
The state prosecutor in Cologne is currently looking into who actually runs the amateur porn site. Thylmann claims a Cypriot subsidiary is responsible, but evidence has emerged suggesting Hamburg company Manwin Germany is behind it, wrote the paper.
Former workers told the paper that Commerzbank employees had in the past made frequent visits to the Manwin headquarters.
Now the investigation into Thylmann’s alleged dodgy dealings has prompted a few red faces at Commerzbank, which is keen to cut off all business relations with him as soon as possible in an attempt to save the bank from reputation damage, wrote the paper, citing sources in the business world.
Banking rules state that banks are allowed to terminate contracts without notice for “reasons of reputation.” According to the report, the account could be closed as soon as Monday.
Originally from Aachen in western Germany, Thylmann built up a pornography empire in just a few years through the holding company Manwin Holding SARL.
He is also behind the website YouPorn and several other sites such as Pornhub and Brazzers.
