File Sharing Sites Falling Left And Right

Last week in a move seen by most as a condolence fuck you to Hollywood for not passing SOPA the Us Department of Justice took down the worlds largest filesharing site, megaupload.  Megaupload wasn't that big in the porn circles but in terms of hollywood movies it was the biggest.

From the DOJ Press release:

The indictment alleges that the criminal enterprise is led by Kim Dotcom, aka Kim Schmitz and Kim Tim Jim Vestor, 37, a resident of both Hong Kong and New Zealand. Dotcom founded Megaupload Limited and is the director and sole shareholder of Vestor Limited, which has been used to hold his ownership interests in the Mega-affiliated sites.

In addition, the following alleged members of the Mega conspiracy were charged in the indictment:

  • Finn Batato, 38, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the chief marketing officer;
  • Julius Bencko, 35, a citizen and resident of Slovakia, who is the graphic designer;
  • Sven Echternach, 39, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the head of business development;
  • Mathias Ortmann, 40, a citizen of Germany and resident of both Germany and Hong Kong, who is the chief technical officer, co-founder and director;
  • Andrus Nomm, 32, a citizen of Estonia and resident of both Turkey and Estonia, who is a software programmer and head of the development software division;
  • Bram van der Kolk, aka Bramos, 29, a Dutch citizen and resident of both the Netherlands and New Zealand, who oversees programming and the underlying network structure for the Mega conspiracy websites.

Dotcom, Batato, Ortmann and van der Kolk were arrested today in Auckland, New Zealand, by New Zealand authorities, who executed provisional arrest warrants requested by the United States. Bencko, Echternach and Nomm remain at large. Today, law enforcement also executed more than 20 search warrants in the United States and eight countries, seized approximately $50 million in assets and targeted sites where Megaupload has servers in Ashburn, Va., Washington, D.C., the Netherlands and Canada. In addition, the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., ordered the seizure of 18 domain names associated with the alleged Mega conspiracy.

The interesting thing about this is that since most of the large porn filesharing sites have shut their doors or limited download capabilities to only what YOU have uploaded.  Rapidshare, filesonic and others have thrown in the towel making even bigger targets out of the few that remain like wupload and oron, expect them to follow suit.

Finally the good guys catch a break, hopefully the tube sites are next....yup thats you Fabian/Manwin.

    Hopefully all the charges will stick. If they don't, the piracy war is OVER unless something harsh like SOPA does finally pass.

    Unfortunately, generations have already been taught they don't have to pay for anything online, so it's going to be a while before people can reap any benefits of such pirate sites going offline, and that is IF they get them all offline. Even then, you still have all the big tubes with licensed content who are still giving away full length videos. And honestly, if you've licensed your content to a tube site, you deserve to go out of business. There has never been a greater example of shooting yourself in the foot than that. And to think, all of that DVD content out there is going to eventually end up on tube sites probably owned by Manwin. Boggles the mind.

  • Dantes

    If an industry is built upon / built around (whichever came first isn't important) the notion that people deserve what they haven't earned, it is only a matter of time before the general public takes that to heart. Porn is, essentially, the idea that the experience of having sex with a beautiful woman needn't be earned through a lifetime of character cultivation and/or material wealth creation, but instead the same neuro-chemical sensations involved with it can be (properly, legitimately) had for just $19.95 and a high-speed connection. If pornographers are willing to create / exploit the notion that people deserve the unearned - and to do it in regards to the most intimate and personal aspect of a person's life - then they should not be surprised when that same attitude shows itself in less intimate and personal contexts.

    So seriously South: shut up. You made / maintained your bed. Lie in it.

    This is in response to Dantes. When someone watches a comedy movie, a person is getting high from the experience of laughter. Just liking watching porn, the
    person watching is not interacting with a person. When someone is watching a violent movie, he or she is getting the thrill of violence without having to do it for real.

    After reading the claim that porn is about making people feel like they "deserve" what they haven't earned--I laughed. What kind of moron has so tortured a view of porn? or of masturbating? What kind of utter fool equates jerking off to porn with somehow feeling that one "deserves" to sleep with beautiful women? What kind of sad sack of shit thinks that jerking off to porn comes anywhere CLOSE to the "experience of having sex with a beautiful woman"? What sort of idiot isn't aware that jerking off to porn is just a fun, solitary form of sexual recreation? What type of retard thinks that jerking off to porn has anything to do with "deserving" or "earning" anything?

    Then I saw the name--oh of course, it's the fool Dantes, who will go to ANY length to justify his childish libertarian philosophy.

    You see, in order for Dantes's truly laughable libertarian ideas to have any substance, he has to constantly explain why, if something bad happens to you because of the "freedom" of others, then it's YOUR fault. If people steal porn you created, then it's YOUR fault--it's not because copyright laws are ineffectively enforced, it's because somehow YOU promoted the idea that it's okay to have what you haven't earned. Oh, and it's the government's fault too--its horribly burdensome regulations force people to steal!

    Dantes clings desperately to these preposterous arguments, because he has no choice--the only other option is to face the truth of just how ridiculous his philosophical position is. The only other option is to see the OBVIOUS truth, that people steal porn--not because they feel they deserve what they haven't earned, but because they have natural greed and because they can get away with it. If they knew they could get away with stealing Dantes's property, they would--and it's not because they watch porn.

    So don't pay any attention to his absurdities. I'm quite sure that when HE jerks off to porn, he is crying onto his half-hard cock about all the women he hasn't "earned" the right to sleep with.
