One of the things I have been chasing for two weeks is a rumor that there is an HIV positive male performer working in the biz. He is passing the Industry test because his viral load is undetectably low.
This is mostly coming from female performers spreading the word via social media. I have not been able to confirm or deny it but I feel I should make it known as a warning. This business has been working under the false impression that the Aptima Viral load test is the best test for HIV for porn performers and that is flat out NOT TRUE.
The oft quoted window period was true 20 years ago, that is no longer the case, there is very little IF ANY difference in the window period for the ELISA test and the Aptima test given advances in testing over the last 20 years but the Aptima test is inferior because if you have HIV and are on the drug treatments you will drop to an undetectable viral load meaning you will test negative, that is NOT the case with the ELISA test. In the past I personally have used both, using the oral swab ELISA test prior to every shoot as a fail safe against this, I am considering dropping the Aptima test altogether because there is no longer any advantage to it.
Since I won’t be writing here if and when this does come out I would suggest that performers start using the oral swab test as I did IN ADDITION to the industry test. its cheap its effective and it may prevent you from catching HIV.
I encourage all performers to ask their DOCTOR not the FSC about this if they have any questions.
Thank’s to you all for the birthday wishes…I finally found something that Facebook is good for, I seriously got HUNDREDS of birthday wishes.
In my benevolent mood I even reconsidered some of the other people whose posts were sourced by Shy Love, particularly Mark Schechter and I redacted or deleted some of them. One thing I won’t do though is absolve him or The FSC of the plotting that they did, agents were generally adversarial towards The FSC and rightly so, putting Mark in place on the board was a smart move but it was also very transparent. Anyone who thinks that The FSC is in ANY way representing the interests of talent is a flat out moron. Period. That doesn’t mean that there are not morons in porn, there’s lots of em, Karen Tynan for instance is now supportive of Donny Long through Sean Tompkins….you can’t get much further from the interests of talent than that.
Anyway back to the subject at hand…Thanks Y’all!
Thank you for having allowed everybody to express their so many different and diverse views, in all these years. Thank you for your forthrightness, for your honesty and for your kindness. I don’t intend to experience the feeling of missing you, hence you’ll still find me in your mailbox on a regular basis, I guess, and maybe sooner than later at your doorstep for that hug that we’ve talked about so many times. In this special day, I wish you to get a call from Dave for your settlement and of course to enjoy the warm company of your beloved ones. Happy birthday, Mike. I love you.
First I want to wish you all a happy yuletide season, whatever it is you celebrate, I hope you spend it with family and friends and I hope it is healthy, happy and that the new year is prosperous.
As many of you have figured out Dec. 31st is the last post by me here. My New Years resolution is to spend less time …. make that no time writing about porn here. Its been a good run. if you have me in your email my email address will be email@example.com. The current address is being phased out.
One area where I will still be putting in effort is Manwin/MindGeek, I do still want any info you may have on them, to add to my files to help anyone who needs it. Every single time they have been sued for copyright infringement they have settled very quietly out of court. I pleases me that many times I provided crucial information that helped to make those lawsuits successful and I plan to continue to do so, but it wont be written about here, maybe on facebook or something.
My paysites will remain active at least for the time being.
Other than that I plan to spend more time fishing and being with friends and family, I am happy and aside from a knee replacement surgery coming up I am relatively healthy.
I expect the lawsuit to be settled any day. I want to thank everyone who offered support, y’all are amazing.
Other than the fact that it just isn’t fun anymore the main reason for this is my heath and the second is that Porn Valley as we know it is next to dead. AVN Awards, XBiz Awards are meaningless…look at AVN nominees for best website…ALL are advertisers and not one is anywhere near representative of anything that could be called “Award winning” ditto XBiz. I don’t want to be the person turning out the lights in Porn Valley.
On that front, MindGeek/Manwin won.
Finally I want to thank you all, while I may be the face of this site, the real value came from the commenters and from the support from mainstream media who look at me as the voice of honesty and reason and the only place where they can get honest reporting about the industry. All of that is from my readers who comment, or send me info or tell me of the things that happen to them. I am proud of you guys. I know I have said it many times but the level of discourse here is FAR above that of any other site, in terms of intelligence. I have learned from all of you.
Much love to you all and please do stay in touch, there are many of you that I would love to meet and attach a face to a name.
I took the day off yesterday but I did get a lot of emails about the Nikki Benz thing. I’m sure you are all aware of it by now but to make a long story short she was assaulted on a Brazzers set by Director Tony T (who incidentally owns a stake in cutting edge testing). Mind Geek hasn’t commented to any mainstream outlet, no surtprise there and Nikki is understandably standing her ground on it…BRAVO for her.
APAC, The FSC, AVN, XBiz have all come out saying that this behavior is unacceptable.
Brazzers even fired Tony T over it, they havent apologized to Niki or any of the other girls that endured this.
Pardon me for stating the obvious but, the thing that nobody else has mentioned is that this is a recurring issue with Tony T, nothing at all new about it, it has happened to a lot of girls in this biz but until now nobody has given a rats ass. Where was all of this outrage when it was happening to countless other porn girls? Nobody cared.
Admitted Nikki has the status to stand her ground and good for her for doing so but someone in this biz should have brought this to a halt way before Nikki Benz set foot on that set.
Better late than never I guess.
The best way to really piss me off…and I mean really is to have hubris to tell someone “Mike South writes whatever I tell him to.” I am my own person and right or wrong I write what I think is relevant, nobody dictates what I write. In some cases if you are paying me for an ad and I believe you have a good product I will write an endorsement, like I did for PureVPN.
Apparently Shy Love has been taking some liberties with my good nature towards her and has fed me some misinformation that ended up somewhat helping her. Today I am gonna set that right.
It happens a lot, people have an agenda and they want to use me to push it, over the years I have learned how to weed that out but I guess it can still happen from time to time, so before I retire I wanna put this one right.
Like most people I took it for granted that Shy’s company TheVIPConnect (which honestly sounds more like an escort service) was bonded and licensed. Today I did some digging. She is, in fact licensed in Nevada, I found nothing about a bond there, but here is the catch, she does business in Los Angeles, California.
Now the whole purpose of a bond is that if something goes awry the talent has recourse to collect monies owed for whatever. That’s why an agent HAS to be bonded in California to provide talent for productions in California. But there’s more.
She has an office in Porn Valley but no license in California so anyway you look at it TheVIPConnect is not a legit agency, except maybe in Nevada.
Ya have to wonder why she isn’t licensed and bonded in Cali.
Another thing that always struck me as underhanded was selling her agency ATM to someone then turning right around and opening a new agency, seems there should have been a non compete there…I mean who does that?
Shy has it in for Dave, no doubt, much of the info I got came from her and it appears now to be wrong or greatly exaggerated. I’m not sure why she has it in for Dave, not that I care but she clearly does and that certainly played a large part in the riff between Dave and I now. On that topic Dave and I have been speaking and I am pretty sure that we will settle things out of court, which really is the way I prefer it. I am irritated over being played that way, but I admit it, I was played.
On the one hand there are things I will miss when I am done with MikeSouth.com but this kind of BS drama is certainly not one of them.
Another thing I don’t get is why Shy would turn on someone who really helped her, both financially and business wise, is it really all over what girls go where? I know there isn’t much business in L.A. these days but damn. What little work there is half of it is for MindGeek, I can’t continue to write about this biz and not be square with that, like it or not MindGeek won and maybe the whole agency swamp is symptomatic of that. When Jim South was running World Modeling, he was the only game in town for most of porn, then Derek Hay came along and revolutionized the agency biz. He guaranteed his girls would show up and that they would be prepared, and they did and they were because Derek made sure of it and with that World Modeling disappeared and L.A. Direct prospered. When it became evident that being in the agency business could be very prosperous new agents started popping up like mushrooms after a rainstorm, Shy Love being one of them, and for a while many prospered but that bubble burst and apparently it led to the agency biz being the cut throat biz it is today.
Maybe that’s what bred all of the contempt and backstabbing she (and others) have fallen victim to.
In the end I believed things that were told to me by Shy that I now know I shouldn’t have, everything I told her, she repeated and even used them against me. Sure it pisses me off but I’m human I make mistakes, I misjudge people, but I learn from it. But it still pisses me off…That one won’t happen again, and NOBODY has ever told me what to write
OK Time to move on….
There is an old axiom that says “actions speak louder than words”
When I ran the story about the young lady who got HIV and chose to “disappear” I got a response within an hour. The response came from someone high up at AHF and told me to offer her any support that she needs, be it financial, emotional, doctors, someone to talk to anything. It went on to state “That is why we are here”. It was heartfelt and honest.
Now contrast that with The FSC, who offered…nothing, not even condolences or words of encouragement. The same from APAC, nothing.
There is a lesson here for all to see, who are the good guys? Who would you trust YOUR life with?
Most of you in Porn Valley will be in denial but I will say it, Thank You AHF for everything you have done on behalf of the people in porn who got infected, you have offered them quality medical care, financial assistance and emotional support at a time when our industry turned their back on them. Before I leave this site that needed to be said. Thank You, on behalf of the people in this biz who do care.
Welcome to Life After Truth, my friends. There is no ‘Real’ anymore. Facts no longer matter, if they ever really did. Opinion, innuendo, memes, and social media posts, created on a whim and a dare, are the forces that apparently are able to sway nations, voters, laws, and governments in this modern world we inhabit.
In our technology-heavy society, with so many of us getting our news and information from the internet and television, and to a lesser degree from newspapers, all second hand sources, how is it ever possible for any of us to EVER be sure that an event transpired the way we are told that it did?
The Sandy Hook shooting, for example, four years ago this week. The assassination of JFK. 9/11. San Bernardino. The Boston Marathon Bombing.
I wasn’t present or even nearby for any of these events. I have no way of knowing if they even occurred, other than if I accept the news reports I’ve seen at face value (and, if I reject or question them, risk being branded a conspiracy theorist).
But how is one to know?
How can any of us ever really know?
I am sympathetic with the many people who have lost all faith in our media, who believe nothing that any of our major news organizations try to tell them. I can understand those people who choose not to believe anything at all. We have all fallen down the rabbit hole, it seems.
But when a subject has been as heavily researched and looked into as, for example, the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook has been… with multiple books written about it, by journalists, by survivors of the massacre, by family members of the victims… with voluminous state investigation reports released, detailing investigations conducted by various agencies…when it is so clear-cut and dried that there was ONE assailant, named Adam Lanza… and that he shot his poor mother while she lay in her bed, and then drove to the school, shot his way in, murdered all of those poor victims and then killed himself. What makes people think there is more to this story? That these children somehow didn’t exist? That it’s all a false flag? Aren’t the actual events tragic and horrifying enough, in any context?
“They are so used to being bullshitted, they get skeptical,” said my friend Mike South when I asked him these questions.
Yes. I can see that. Mike is right, I think.
I guess it just feels like we’ve all slipped into a new era, one in which no reality will be universally perceived as real, where our perceptions of any situation will be warped and twisted until none of us is sure anymore of what time it is, or who is alive or dead, or whether we’re coming or going. It certainly makes one miss the days of Walter Cronkite.
Fabian was sentenced to 16 months in German Prison for Tax Evasion, he was also fined 150,000 Euros.
The 16 month sentece was “put to parole”
you can read the details here.
(This is the english version through google translate.
Apparently there is an error with google translate, I am told the original german version of this story translates to on probation instead of in prison. That actually jives better with what I believe happened, in that Fabian worked a deal to roll over on Manwin/MindGeek in exchange for no prison time. If someone wants to set the record straight and is fluent in German the original story is here:
Also you may want to translate this one as well I believe he has to pay 26.25 Million Euros in back taxes as well…..sometimes being a thief doesn’t pay I guess
I spoke to this person many times in the last two days, her story checks out 100% and I believe her. She has asked me to write it in my words. She now married, expecting, happy and living with HIV, a forever reminder of her very brief time in porn. She has approved this post.
She came into the biz right before an outbreak, she got an agent and she had high expectations, like a lot of girls that come into the biz she wanted to be “the next Jenna Jameson.”
She shot a little bit but one of those times was with someone who later tested HIV positive. When she found out she had been exposed, she immediately quit the biz, she admits that she was in denial, and didn’t want to know, when she woke up one morning feeling a little under the weather she went to the drug store and bought a HIV oral swab test, ten minutes later her life changed forever. She had insurance so she went to her doctor and he confirmed her worst nightmare, she got HIV. She was conflicted about coming forward, after seeing how the people are treated in the biz when they test positive. She sat down with her agent and discussed it and the agent told her to disappear.
The reasoning was simple, everyone had been tested (so they thought) she has a college degree and she has insurance so she didn’t need financial support. They both felt that simply disappearing like so many girls do was the best option. It bothered her that she may have exposed someone else but time took that worry away. She moved on with her life.
I asked her if she had been identified by the industry as someone who had a direct exposure, she told me that she had not, nobody ever contacted her at all. I asked her if she was sure that she got infected on set, and her response was an emphatic 100% yes. She had confined her sexual activities to performing. She went on to give e the name of the person she got it from and even told me how to find the particular scene.
When I asked her why she was coming forward now, she said that it had been bothering her to see all the times that people in porn were claiming no on set transmissions since 2004, she knew that was wrong. She was infected much more recently than 2004. She also said that she had written me emails a lot of times then decided not to send them, she didn’t want the blow back if her name got out, when she read here that I am retiring she knew that it was now or never. I assured her I would take her identity to my grave and if push came to shove I would say I made the whole thing up. She is now married, expecting a baby boy and happy in her life. The meds are working and her viral load is undetectable, she expects to live a long and happy life.
It is things like this that make me question retirement, I mean how else would this story ever get out? But does it really change anything? Will even one person read this story and think that maybe porn isn’t so safe as I have been told. We all know he answer and I need to step down for my own health, hell I’m too old and the biz is dead anyway. Internet porn will continue to survive but Porn Valley is dead. Writing about porn has become a chore for me, it isn’t fun anymore, and I have pretty much said all there is to say. But I regress, this isn’t about me, this story is about a young lady who believed that she was coming into a business where safety was the first concern and then learned very differently. I have no doubt that The FSC will continue to tout the no on set transmission mantra, but that’s a lie, we knew it was a lie before this girl came forward, Even Rolling Stone Magazine pointed out that it is a lie.
This does leave me with one question though, given the revolving door that porn is….is this the first and only time that this has happened? I know what I think.
To set the rumor mill at ease mikesouth.com has not been sold. It is true that I am close to retiring from it, it has not been sold nor is it likely to be sold. I have considered just turning it over to one or more of my writers nothing has been decided st this point, so stop bugging people about it…Thanks South
What you’re about to read is excerpt from an article written by my colleague Lee Menarde who regularly contributes to my web site. You can read the full article here:
Sex Tech: The Future of Erotica and Intimacy
By Lee Menarde
The following line is not the plot of a 1970’s cheap Erotic/Sci-Fi movie, it’s a news headline published in the British newspaper Mirror on January 6, 2016:
“Sex robots could be the biggest trend of 2016 as more lonely humans seek mechanical companions.”
Sex robots are becoming more realistic looking, their level of artificial intelligence is constantly increasing, making them more capable of interacting with humans, and their prices are going down, meaning more people can afford to purchase them and even fall in love with them. Dr. Helen Driscoll, a leading authority on the psychology of sex and relationships, commented:
“’Sex tech is advancing at a fast pace.
Robotic, interactive, motion-sensing technology is likely to become more and more central to the sex industry in the next few years.
We tend to think about issues like virtual reality and robotic sex within the context of current norms, but if we think back to the social norms about sex that existed 100 years ago, it is obvious that they have changed rapidly and radically.
As virtual reality becomes more realistic and immersive and is able to mimic and even improve on the experience of sex with a human partner, it is conceivable that some will choose this in preference to sex with a less than perfect human being.
People may also begin to fall in love with their virtual reality partners.”
Dr. Driscoll suggests the term “Robophilia” to describe the phenomenon of human/sex robot love relationship, and speculates it could become normal in the future as attitudes evolve with technology.
Artificial intelligence researcher Dr. David Levy is another expert who has done an extensive research on sex tech. According to Dr. Levy:
“People could be marrying robots, and consummating their vows, by 2050.
Although it might not appeal at first, once you have a story like “I had sex with a robot, and it was great” appear some place like Cosmo magazine, I’d expect many people to jump on the bandwagon.”
It’s interesting to observe how Dr. Levy emphasizes on the importance of media propaganda in normalizing robophilia. He stresses that love and sex with robots are inevitable.
Dr. Ian Pearson is another expert who is also convinced that in the future, human/robot sex overtakes human/human sex.
In a report produced for online sex shop Bondara, Dr. Pearson wrote:
“By 2030, most people will have some form of virtual sex as casually as they browse porn today. By 2035, the majority of people will own sex toys that interact with virtual reality sex. We will start to see some forms of robot sex appearing in high-income, very wealthy households as soon as 2025. We will start to see robot sex overtaking human-human in 2050. Leisure spending could grow by a factor of five, and the sex market in 20 years could be three times bigger than today and seven times bigger by 2050.
Dr. Pearson added:
“Brothels and strip clubs will soon include robots and they will be a specific fetish for some people, as well as a potentially cheaper replacement for real-life interaction.”
It seems in the future world, no job and no occupation will be safe from robotics, even prostitution, the oldest profession in history.
Currently human/robot sex is on its way to overtake human/human sex in some countries, perhaps most notably Japan where under 40s population appears to be losing interest in conventional relationships. The Japanese government calls this a “Celibacy Syndrome”, part of a looming national catastrophe. The alarming fact is that Japan already has one of the world’s lowest birth rates and its population of 126 million is projected to plunge a further one-third by 2060 and the number of single people in Japan has reached a record high. A survey in 2011 found that 61% of men and 49% of women aged 18-34 were not in any kind of romantic relationship, a rise of almost 10% from five years earlier. A survey in 2016 by the Japan Family Planning Association (JFPA) found that 45% of women aged 16-24 were not interested in or even despised sexual contact. Aoyama, a sex and relationship expert in Japan explained:
“Many people are turning to “Pot Noodle Love”, an easy or instant gratification in the form of casual sex, and more are turning towards technological means of instant sexual gratification such as online porn, virtual-reality girlfriends and anime cartoons.”
Aoyama used one of her patients as an example, a 30 year old virgin who cannot get sexually aroused unless she watches female robots on a game similar to “Power Rangers”.
Rapid rise of sex tech has caused a great deal of concern about its negative implications. Senior researcher Dr. Kathleen Richardson is among a growing number of scientists who have called the development of sex robots a disturbing trend that needs to be halted:
“Sex robots seem to be a growing focus in the robotics industry and the models that they draw on, how they will look, what roles they would play, are very disturbing indeed.
We think that the creation of such robots will contribute to detrimental relationships between men and women, adults and children, men and men and women and women.”
Let’s hope such dire warnings won’t fall on deaf ears.
I started watching a new docu-drama about Mars that is running on Nat Geo. The premise is our first attempt to colonize the dead planet. To fully appreciate the task you kinda have to understand a few things about the red dead Planet.
Mars once had an atmosphere that was in many ways similar to ours here on earth about 1000 millibars of atmospheric pressure. There were in fact rivers, lakes and very likely oceans, we know all of this thanks to NASA’s Maven Spacecraft. ( Remember I spent some time working for NASA back in the 80s and early 90s). The Martian atmosphere, according to evidence we have, consisted largely of carbon dioxide and oxygen.
As Mars cooled (internally) it lost it’s magnetic field roughly some 4.2 billion years ago. Without a strong magnetic field to protect it, the solar winds from the sun began stripping away the Martian atmosphere. Needless to say any life that was there wouldn’t be able to maintain itself.
Any ideas about “terraforming” the planet are pure science fiction at this point, and not likely to be resolved. Without a magnetic field to protect the atmosphere, life on Mars has to live beneath the surface and that is assuming that life could become sustainable without the solar energy that powers all life here on earth save for a few obscure organisms that survive in the deep oceans from the heat of the earths core….an ocean that Mars doesn’t have.
Another issue is radiation, even on the International Space Station, astronauts are more protected because it is within the earths magnetosphere. A trip to Mars would take humans between 0ne and two years to reach the planet and the amount of radiation they would get on the trip would be deadly using todays technology.
Suffice it to say we are a pretty good way from solving that big problem, but we ARE working on it and one thing that we humans have excelled at is solving relocation problems. We settled the New World, We settled the West, as “Mars” points out we have even settled Antarctica. So we will, in all likelihood, settle someplace else other than Earth and right now that place seems to be Mars. It would have been a much less daunting task 4.5 billion years ago when Mars had that atmosphere and liquid water and whatnot but 4.2 billion years ago the closest thing to a human on Earth was probably very basic plant life, if that. To put it in perspective we humans have only been around for less than a million years, a LOT less…200,000 to be more precise. Earth is roughly 5 billion years old and Mars and Earth are thought to have formed around the same time but Mars is MUCH smaller than Earth. Earth is about 8000 miles in Diameter, Mars is about 4000 miles in diameter. It was in fact the size that caused Mars to quickly cool enough to lose its magnetic field. More to the point the surface area of Earth is about 200 million square miles, 75% of which is covered in water. The surface area of Mars is about 56 million square miles, none of which is covered in water.
Now getting back to “Mars” the docudrama. They kind of sugar coated the whole radiation thing, and managed to get people to the planets surface, but a long way off course from where the supplies were stockpiled. (naturally….There has to be some drama) In reality the same navigation here on earth that can put a flying explosive warhead in a 1 foot by one foot window, with pinpoint accuracy from half way around the earth would be employed before we put people there so I don’t see that happening in reality.
In the show they do hit all the high points, the things people can easily grasp, like the need to grow food and lessening dependency on shipments from Earth which is at best around 2 years away and can be a LOT longer depending on where each planet is within its respective orbit around the sun.
But what about the subtle things? Assuming we are sending our best and brightest people and the idea is to actually populate the planet, or the interior of it, are we not setting up a colony of hybrid humans, genetically speaking? What about religion, if we send only atheists and agnostics does the colony soon view our religions the same way we view mythology? The same goes for race and even social institutions, from a colonization standpoint it makes far more sense to send a lot more women than men, men can produce far more offspring than women can but what does that mean for marriage and monogamy? let’s not forget keeping the gene pool varied too.
There are far more things to consider than just getting the people there. At this point in our evolution I am not so sure that we are ready for the task of moving the human race beyond Earth we aren’t doing so well on Earth right now, maybe it isn’t the time to export what we call “civilization”.
This was fun to think about and write, y’all feel free to chime in.
This post has been redacted.
A note to my authors: While I generally don’t have a problem with controversy this post went too far for me, for one it made allegations of horrific felonies that are nothing more than speculations. If indictments come down on the people mentioned here I will revisit, otherwise I prefer NOT to have this posted. It opens the door to legal issues that are the last thing I need to deal with at this time.
Lets keep things more industry related and don’t accuse anyone of a felony that they have not been convicted of.
