I wouldn't know a lot about the U.S. but from my perspctive I think this is simply a matter of capitalism and some serious marketing. Fads like this come and go, everyone wants a piece of the cake and consumers are all too willing to jump on the next trend. MILF, as an expression, is probably here to stay, though, and in ten or fifteen years, no one will remember where it came from...
