OK, I'll take a stab at it.
For a LOT of men (and women) their upbringing and view of sex in general causes them to view "porn" as degrading, nasty, filthy, etc... and it simply offends their sensibilities. However, their sensitive eyes & ears are able to compromise with their repressed sexual appetite for what we know as "soft porn". It's also, used by some as a stepping stone to encourage their spouse/SigOther.
Also, the idea of "Less Is More". Lot's of people find that to be much more erotic. Example: Burlesque
Personally, I think "More Is More". Example: Donkey Show
